Frequently Asked Questions

How is black salt different from regular salt?

Black salt like Avalon Bright Black Salt Kala Namak is different from regular table salt in the way it’s manufactured and with its flavour. Himalayan black salt is made with pink Himalayan salt (a type of rock salt), which is then processed to create its black colour.

Much of the black salts sold today are made synthetically from a combination of sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium bisulfate, and ferric sulfate, but not Avalon Bright Kala Namak.

Avalon Bright Black Salt Kala Namak is mixed with charcoal and heated. The final product contains sulfates, sulfides, iron, and magnesium which contribute to the colour, smell, and taste of the black salt.

While black salt has a more in-depth flavour, it also offers a sulfurous aroma. Regular table salt tastes salty, but sometimes it could have notes of sweetness, sourness, or bitterness.
