Getting Sufficient Protein
This is one of the most confusing discussions about veganism. Many non-vegans will somewhat laughably ask “How do you get protein?”. This has long been a central conversation about veganism, however, it doesn’t really make much sense at all. Getting ‘sufficient’ protein only really has application for certain groups of people. The main question you should ask vegans about protein, however, is about the quality of proteins.
When talking about protein we can say that not all proteins from plant sources are complete proteins. This means they do not contain all of the essential amino acids that humans require. There are some plant sources of protein that are complete proteins. Things like quinoa, hemp, chia, and tofu are all complete proteins.
Having meals with these sources in your diet is ideal, and essential. You might end up developing deficiencies after a long time without complete proteins so it is a nice idea to get them incorporated into your diet early on.

Adapting Your Recipes
We all have our favorite, easy weekly meals we like to make. These are the nutritionally varied, but simple meals to make that you and your family love. There are so many ways to adapt your recipes while still keeping them delicious! Things like swapping mince for finely chopped mushrooms and walnuts, swapping scrambled eggs for scrambled tofu, and more.
One common misconception about going vegan is that you will have to completely change your entire life and diet around. This is not the case at all! You can still eat basically all the same meals while eating a vegan diet that is healthy and sustainable.

Getting New Inspiration
While you can continue eating all your favorite dishes, we see this as a wonderful opportunity to try out some brand-new recipes! There are loads of wonderful ideas for you to uncover with your new diet and lifestyle. No, these aren’t all going to be boring salads and kale! Using ingredients in creative ways to make vegan versions of your favorite dishes is the aim here.
Things like soaking cashews in water and blending them to become a sort of bechamel-style cream is what we’re thinking of. Creating your own vegan milk is another great idea. Soaking and blending your nut of choice in a blender is another wonderful vegan, sustainable way of getting milk.
Eating Out
This is probably the most exciting section in this day and age. There are so many vegan options now it’s amazing! Not only are there vegan restaurants in almost every city now, there are vegan options in pretty much every city as well!
Our personal recommendation is to go to some more cuisine-focused vegan restaurants rather than general vegan places. General vegan restaurants tend to be vegan fast food options that are amazing but might not give you that much inspiration.
Cuisines such as Ethiopian, Indian, and Middle Eastern often have dedicated vegan restaurants that are delicious. Their cultures often have a large vegetarian element and that can be easily inspired into a wonderful vegan version.
Meat and Dairy Substitutes
This is another amazing prospect when becoming vegan these days. Meat and Dairy substitutes are in an amazing place. There are so many wonderful vegan meats and vegan cheeses for you to try! We have the very best selection of these products on our site.
With these, we would recommend not going too crazy at the beginning. Some of these products are quite processed and though delicious, are not things you should be eating every day. We recommend going easy on these substitutes and getting the majority of your nutrition from whole foods.
