About Ecover

Ecover was born in 1979 by a group of Beligan hippies turned scientists. They were struck by the damage to waterways and sea life caused by cleaning chemicals and set their minds to find a new cleaner way. Their product development started in a shed, from which they soon launched Ecover’s first biodegradable cleaning products using new formulas free from phosphates. But it wasn’t until 10 years later, in 1989, that Ecover hit the shelves and created a new market for eco-friendly cleaning products. In 1991 Ecover came to the UK and the rest is cleaning history! Yes, we’re proud to let you know that all of Ecovers products are certified cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny program. To achieve this certification Ecover’s production practices are regularly checked to ensure they meet the Standard of Compassion for Animals comprehensive criteria. When you buy Ecover cleaning products or laundry products you can do so safely knowing that no animals have been harmed in the making of them.
Are Ecover products safe?
For Ecover, safety is a top priority. Ecover chooses natural ingredients, only very occasionally using synthetic ingredients when plant-based alternatives do not exist. They select ingredients that have low aquatic toxicity which means that their impacts on animal life are minimal. It’s a great choice if you're conscious about human, animal and environmental welfare.
Is Ecover vegan?
Ecover does not use any animal by-products to make their cleaning products, and their products are not tested on animals. Ecover, therefore, consider themselves vegan-friendly, although they have not applied for a certification from the Vegan Society’s vegan trademark.
Are Ecover laundry products okay for sensitive skin?
There are no harmful chemicals or parabens in any of Ecover’s products. Parabens are chemicals included in products to stop them from biodegrading, they may be potentially bad for our health and skin, and bad for the environment.
Are Ecover products plastic free?
For their liquid products Ecover uses plastic made from a mixture of post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) and plant-based plastic, made from sugar-cane rather than petroleum. Many of these containers are refillable.
